THE Wingmakers got their year
off the ground with victory over the in-form
Steelmen.
Gareth Owen’s men banished memories of heavy defeats to Bangor and NEWI
Cefn Druids thanks to a first-half strike from top-scorer Paul Hallows and a
resilient second-half defensive display.
Hallows slid in his eighth of the season in the 33rd-minute after former Wrexham
goalkeeper Kristian Rogers denied Danny Desormeaux, who adjusted his feet to
collect Phil Molyneux’s pass and get a shot on target.
And Hallows, who along with Darren Wright had earlier gone close, should have
doubled his tally moments later only to turn Gareth Caughter’s cross over.
Port, who had not lost in five, also had their opportunities in a thoroughly
entertaining opening period, with debutant Aaron Tyrer saving well from Liam
McCreesh, Chad Bond heading on to the bar before right-back Ryan Edwards stopped
a certain goal.
Chances were at a premium after the break, but every time the visitors threatened
an equaliser, they were repelled by magnificent centre-backs Mark Allen and John
Davies.
